AIC To Headlines Ozzfest 2007?

According to Blabbermouth.net and a number of inside sources, Sharon Osbourne confirmed in a radio interview that in addition to having husband Ozzy Osbourne return as headlining act of the tour's second stage, the producers are in talks to have Alice in Chains join the bill. Osbourne also mentioned the likelyhood of a 40th anniversary Black Sabbath reunion tour in 2008.

"Them Bones" featured in Guitar Hero 2

According to posts on the official Alice in Chains discussion board, Red Octane, the developers of the anticipated Playstation 2 sequel to Guitar Hero, plan to include the 1992 AiC track "Them Bones" as part of the games soundtrack. Over 55 songs will be made available in the final version of the game and only 7 have been confirmed by Red Octane.

For more details on Guitar Hero 2 check it out in the game profiles section of IGN Playstation 2.

Red Octane will likely confirm the majority of the 55 tracks, including "Them Bones," in a press release in the near future.

There are a lot of destinations on the list and a lot to be excited about! No word yet, on whether more dates will be added either this year or later in 2007.

Latest Interview

Taken from MetalUnderground.com:

"ALICE IN CHAINS played their first large-scale show in the Pacific Northwest in over a decade when they headlined KUFO's "Rockfest 11" at Columbia Meadows nears St. Helens, Oregon on July 29, 2006. KUFO's "Cort and Fatboy Show" interviewed the whole band (including new singer William DuVall) about being joined onstage by Sabastian Bach in Japan last week and about which musicians are allowed to make a cameo appearance on an AIC stage. In the interview, bassist Mike Inez also talks about his lady's love of BON JOVI, guitarist Jerry Cantrell addresses the question of future AIC material, William DuVall discusses his role as "new guy," drummer Sean Kinney cracks jokes about nearly everything and the whole band discusses gearing up for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Band manager Susan Silver also makes a brief appearance in the interview. Audio of the interview can be found at www.cortandfatboy.com."

Slow News

Hey, so we have a few more updates today, all of which come to you a little late. News within the AiC community has slowed down quite a bit since the European tour ended and it almost seems like we're back to the days when there was no AiC news at all. With the opening of the discussion board and fan show review sections on the AiC official website, all signs point at big plans for the band in the coming months. Believe me, Alice in Chains is here to stay, or atleast that's their plan right now. Will we see a new album? Probably not. Maybe the boys will start a new band under a new name instead. We'll just have to wait and see.

We apologize that you guys aren't able to come to our site anymore to the regular updates that we used to have at the beginning of the summer and, in all honesty, with detailed show coverage and community features at the official website, there may not be much of a future left for this little homepage of ours. Still we're not going anywhere, and we'll be watching the upcoming U.S. tour just like everyone else. If we have big news and things to share, you can expect it to be up as quickly as ever.

We hope everyone hops on over to the official site and joins the community. There is a lot of potential in the discussion boards and you'll get the very first heads up on upcoming shows and ticket sales.

And while you're waiting on new AiC news or a show near you, check out some of the other great music coming ot this year. I would definetly recommend picking up the new Mars Volta album "Amputechture" which hits in late August, it's absolutelty disgusting. On the horizon, there is the new Audioslave album "Revelations" coming in September, and if you haven't checked out the latest Pearl Jam or Tool albums yet, shame on you. Also, anyone and everyone needs to see the new Kevin Smith movie "Clerks 2." It may very well be his funniest movie yet.

Until next time...

Official Message Board Up And Running!

The AliceInChains.com Discussion Board is now up and running. Chat with Alice fans from around the world about the band, their music and their shows. Signing up is quick, easy and instantly makes you part of the AliceInChains.com community.

Well there you have it. Not much activity on the boards quite yet, but soon enough there may not be a need for the AIC Reunion Homepage. : (

Chris Cornell on Alice in Chains Reunion

Featured below is a link to an audio interview with Soundgarden/Audioslave vocalist Chris Cornell taken from a Seattle radio station on July 26th. Cornell discusses Audioslave, his old band Soundgarden, other 90's era Seattle bands like Pearl Jam and Mudhoney, and of course Alice in Chains and their much talked about reunion tour. Lots of good things to here from one of today's biggest voices in alternative rock.

Check it out!

*Thanks goes out to RAW from the AIC Discussion Boards for the heads up.

Duvall Wigs

Youtube.com features an interesting video of the band during a European show sporting afro wigs during an encore. It's definetly a funny video worth checking out. Does anyone know which show this was from?

*Update: Thanks to Kruk'd for the heads up. This is from the London show on July 4th.

We're Back!

Hey all! We're finally back from our trip/vacation in southern Europe and ready to continue our coverage of the 2006-2007 Alice in Chains reunion tour. A lot has happened since we were gone, but, as many of you know, the AiC official website has been doing quite a good job of keeping track of the shows in Europe, setlists and all. To check out the shows between June 19th and July 4th head on over to the Backstage With The Baldy section of www.AliceInChains.com. You'll find a lot on setlists and guest appearances as well as a piece on Layne Staley and a wrap-up of the entire 50-day tour of Europe.

After a short break, the band will make an appearance on July 22nd in Fuji, Japan at the Udo Music Festival before heading stateside for a string of shows between July 29th and August 20th. You can expect quite a few more dates to be added to the itinerary in the next coming weeks. Word on the street right now is that the second leg of the U.S. tour will continue well into 2007! We're glad to be back and we're looking forward to having a lot of fun.

"Nothing Else Matters" - Video

It's not great quality, but its the first media we got! A small amount of footage of Metallica's performance of "Nothing Else Matters" with Jerry Cantrell at the Novarock Festival on June 15th. The video features footage taken from a number of songs, but Jerry comes in at about the 3 minute 44 second mark. Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4W9svuPyjw.

Mike and Jerry Guest-Star With Supporting Acts

We've all been pretty excited to hear about some of the guest vocalists and guitarists who have been joing AiC during their current European tour. However, the band has also been giving back to other acts in the rock community by contributing their own talents to supporting acts such as Metallica and Motorhead. At the Novarock Festival on June 15th, Mike Inez sang "Killed by Death" with heavy metal act Motorhead and Jerry Cantrell joined Metallica during their performance of the classic "Nothing Else Matters." Hopefully these rare performances are just a glimpse of some of the creative possibilities that could lay ahead for AiC concerts in the future. The AiC Reunion Homepage will try our best to dig up some audio or video bootlegs of these two performances or any images from the festival.

Rock Am Ring - Professional Videos

YouTube.com is currently hosting some professional video recordings of songs from AiC's June 2nd performance at the MTV Rock Am Ring Music Festival. Performances of "Again," "Man In The Box," and "Would?" are all available and were aired in Germany on MTV. This "Would?" performance was posted previously on our site and features Metallica frontman James Hetfield on vocals and guitar. All three videos show the stage from various angles and give you a great idea of the sheer size of the audiences at these European festivals. Despite the big crowds and giant stadiums, AiC and their new vocalist look absolutely great over there.

Dublin, Ireland - Video

User synnojd of YouTube.com recently uploaded a great video of Alice in Chains's performance of "We Die Young" at the second Download Festival in Dublin, Ireland. Singer William Duvall seems to have nailed the part on this song. If you enjoy it be sure to share your thoughts with a post or an e-mail. Take a look at the link here.

A Big Thanks

We've been getting a boatload of emails recently thanking us for the work being done here at the AiC reunion blog, so we would like to take a little break to thank everyone who has posted and given their positive thoughts about our efforts here. It's great to hear from AiC fans who share in our interest for the band and its even better to hear just how much people are getting out of this site. We hope to keep you guys updated throughout the summer and the rest of the year and while it's difficult for us as journalists in the U.S. to cover the European tour, we'll try our best to keep you guys in the know. We're really looking forward to AiC's return to the states, where full-coverage of the tour should pick up. Again, whether you have information on shows or any other comments feel free to leave a post or send us an e-mail. We are always looking forward to your input.

Thanks Again,
Varun

Public Sales?

Did you miss out on tickets to one of the four Alice in Chains shows that went on sale today? You may be in luck! AIC is expected to make an announcement later this week about potential public sales for these four shows. It is uncertain whether or not the four shows are completely sold out or if only a special batch of pre-sale tickets were sold out. Keep your eye on the Alice in Chains official site for details. The public sale dates and times will likely be announced immediately after all four pre-sales are finished (Late Tuesday or Wednesday). If tickets are entirely sold out, you may find some luck on ebay or at Stub Hub.

Tickets that went on sale today:
* Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom - Hampton Beach, NH
* Starland Ballroom - Sayreville, NJ
* Musikfest, River Place Venue - Bethlehem, PA
* Sioux Empire Fairgrounds - Sioux Falls, SD

More AIC Sell-Outs (First 3 U.S. Shows Gone Already)

Alice in Chains began a string of pre-sales for its first few U.S. shows this August and tickets to their first three scheduled dates are completely sold-out. The presale for their fourth show in Sioux Falls, South Dakota just went on sale at 2pm CDT and you can expect similar demand. As excited as we were to hear about new AIC dates and new appearances at club venues, fans should be warned that tickets to the August shows will be almost as difficult to purchase as tickets to their May U.S. mini tour were. If those shows were any indication, tickets to most AIC shows for the late summer and fall are likely to sell out in minutes, if not seconds! So, make sure you have all the information you need and that you're on top of things both here at the AICReunion page and at the band's official website at www.aliceinchains.com. Good luck!

* Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom - Hampton Beach, NH - SOLD OUT
* Starland Ballroom - Sayreville, NJ - SOLD OUT
* Musikfest, River Place Venue - Bethlehem, PA - SOLD OUT
* Sioux Empire Fairgrounds - Sioux Falls, SD - May 30 @ 2pm CDT ALMOST SOLD OUT

AIC Plays First European Show

Alice in Chains played the Super Bock Super Rock Festival in Lisbon, Portugal on May 26th, marking their first appearance this year in Europe. While we were not able to gather a setlist or details on guest appearances, we did manage to spot a small clip taken by an audience member on Youtube.com:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFh6RC6sz5k

It may be harder for us to cover some of these European shows so anyone who has any details please send them our way. Alice in Chains will continue through a string of dates leading up to their final European appearance in London on July 4th. While AIC will be playing a handful of clubs, the majority of their gigs will be a part of major music festivals. Artists like Tool, The Deftones, and Guns 'N Roses will all be sharing the stage with the band, meaning guest appearances from the likes of Maynard Keenan and Axl Rose are possible.

Variety Reviews Roxy Show

Bringing in a new singer is a risky move for any band, made even riskier when the singer being replaced was a tragic or iconic figure. Layne Staley, a singer who turned every song and concert into a wailing maelstrom of self-loathing, would certainly fit into the latter category. Alice in Chains, with William DuVall replacing Staley, has found a savvy solution to the problem: The band's simply diminished the role of the singer.

Boston, San Diego, and New York setlists?

Anyone know what the band played at these three dates. The setlists seem to have been relatively consistent between shows. Comment if you attended any of these gigs.

Bootleg Links Updated

I had a chance to update the bootleg links for the May 18th show at The Roxy in LA and the March 10th Vh-1 show in Atlantic City. They should be working now, atleast for the time being.

First New U.S. Date Announced

Alice In Chains will be headlining this year's Locobazooka on Sunday, Aug 13. They will be joined by more than a dozen other acts who will all take to the stage at Mansfield MA's Tweeter Center. In addition to their August 11th appearance at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in Sturgis, South Dakota, this marks one of two of the first announced dates of AIC's late summer/fall U.S. tour.

More dates will be announced by the band this week.

For now, AIC will kick off their European tour in Lisbon, Portugal on May 26th. They will continue overseas through a Japanese date on July 23rd.

AIC Wraps Up String Of U.S. Club Dates

NEW YORK — The spirit of grunge rock was alive and well inside the Bowery Ballroom on Tuesday night as the surviving members of Alice in Chains took the cramped club's begrimed stage for the fifth and final stop on the iconic band'sbrief U.S. club run.

The concert was preceded by days of speculation about what "special guests" would join the rockers to sub for late frontman Layne Staley. The most popular of the rumors had been Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose, who was in New York for four gigs at the Hammerstein Ballroom. There was also talk of Velvet Revolver's Scott Weiland, Type O Negative's Peter Steele or ex-Pantera mainman Phil Anselmo joining the band.

Alas, there were no surprise guests Tuesday. Even Velvet Revolver bassist Duff McKagan, who'd been touring with the group on this trek as a second guitarist, was missing. But that didn't seem to distract the hundreds who congested the Bowery's beer-sodden floor to witness the Chains revival.

More U.S. Dates To Be Announced!

I recently directed an email to the Official Alice in Chains website regarding the possibility of more U.S. dates in the late summer/fall and got a great response. Check it out below:

Keep an eye on AliceInChains.com this week because we will be announcing a few more US dates. It's NOT a full-out US tour, just a few dates here and there but more of these dates will be in large venues.

If you haven't already done so, I suggest that you sign up for AIC.com's official newsletter "Dirt" (http://aliceinchains.com/tools/mailinglist/Subscribe.aspx). It will keep you up-to-date on where the band is off to next.

Lindsay

Hopefully many more people will be able to enjoy the new AIC this fall at the larger venues. I don't want to speculate that much, but given the large gap of time between AIC's Japanese shows and their only announced August show in South Dakota, the soon-to-be-announced U.S. dates are just as likely to be scheduled for July/August as they are for the fall. So keep your fingers crossed and check the AIC website all this week for details and possible ticket information.

Boston Show - Videos!

I'm still working on getting the setlist and other details about the Boston show, but I did manage to find some very cool videos taken by an audience member during the gig. You can check them out at www.youtube.com. Just search "Alice in Chains Boston" There are some really cool clips and a full version of "It Ain't Like That." Not the greatest quality, but an interesting find nonetheless.

Got details? stories?

Hey guys,

We'd love to hear your stories and any details you might have about the 6 U.S. AIC shows. If you have any corrections to the information on this page, any additional information, or just want to give your own review or commentary on one of the gigs send us an e-mail or post a comment. The web seems to seriously be lacking AIC fansites, so we're still missing setlists from shows such as the one in San Diego. Thanks so much to those who have sent emails already and for those of you checking out this page.

-Thanks

Bootleg Surface Date: N/A

While I haven't yet gathered many details about Alice in Chains fourth mini-tour show at the Cabaret Metro in Chicago, I have managed to get ahold of the setlist and a few details from fans who attended the gig. According to many, Jerry was having serious problems with his guitars and equipment which forced the band to end their set prematurely. In addition, many were dissappointed to see that no guest vocalists attended the Chicago show, William Duvall played second guitar where needed.

Setlist:

Sludge Factory
Dam That River
Rain When I Die
We Die Young
Love, Hate, Love
Again
Junkhead
Down In A Hole

It Ain’t Like That

William Duvall (Comes With The Fall) - Vocals

For more fan stories check out this posting on the Official Pearl Jam Message Board. We'll keep you updated on whether or not any recordings surface for this performance or the AIC show in San Diego.

Please if anyone has more detailed information on any of the six club shows AIC has or will be playing this spring in the states let us know. We would love to see your comments or an e-mail.

AIC Joined By DAMAGEPLAN Singer In San Diego

Former DAMAGEPLAN and current THE MERCY CLINIC singer Patrick Lachman joined ALICE IN CHAINS on stage for renditions of "Rooster" and "Would?" at the group's May 19 concert at the House of Blues in San Diego, California. Also guesting at the gig was VELVET REVOLVER/ex-GUNS N' ROSES bassist Duff McKagan, who performed with the band on second guitar.

Lachman had previously performed with the surviving ALICE IN CHAINS members — guitarist Jerry Cantrell, bassist Mike Inez and drummer Sean Kinney — at a benefit for victims of the Indonesian tsunami in February 2005. At that show, which took place in Seattle, four vocalists — Lachman, TOOL's Maynard James Keenan, PUDDLE OF MUDD's Wes Scantlin and HEART's Ann Wilson — stepped in for the late Layne Staley, who died of a drug overdose in 2002.

ALICE IN CHAINS — Cantrell, Kinney, Inez and William DuVall (who will handle lead vocals for the group) — will next hit the stage at the Metro in Chicago on Sunday (May 21) before continuing with the U.S. club dates: Boston, Avalon Ballroom, May 22 and New York, Bowery Ballroom, May 23. Following the U.S. dates, the band will head overseas for a series of club dates and festival appearances.

As previously reported, a half-hour interview with ALICE IN CHAINS members Cantrell, Kinney and Inez — which aired earlier in the month on the HDNet (High Definition TV) channel as part of the "Sound Off" program with host Matt Pinfield — has been posted online at this location.

*If anyone has the setlist from the San Diego show post a comment.

Corgan and Lanegan Show Up At the Roxy

By Dean Goodman

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Seattle rock band Alice in Chains, one of the biggest acts of the early 1990s until drugs got in the way, launched its first tour since 1996 in Los Angeles on Thursday with the help of a few famous friends.

Former Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan turned up at the packed Roxy Theater to sing a tune, as did former Screaming Trees vocalist Mark Lanegan. Velvet Revolver bassist Duff McKagan, playing guitar, accompanied the band on five songs.

The sold-out show at the 450-capacity venue was the first of five that will take the band to clubs in San Diego (May 19), Chicago (May 21), Boston (May 22) and New York (May 23). The band played a last-minute "open rehearsal" in Seattle on Tuesday. A European jaunt begins on May 26 in Lisbon.

Alice in Chains last toured in June-July 1996, when it opened four shows for Kiss. Subbing for vocalist Layne Staley, who died of a drug overdose in April 2002, is William DuVall, an old collaborator of guitarist Jerry Cantrell.

The afro-coiffed DuVall, sporting an unbuttoned leather shirt, effectively channeled the menace of his ill-fated predecessor. Cantrell in a vintage Eveready t-shirt, bass player Mike Inez in a Led Zeppelin t-shirt and drummer Sean Kinney kept things just as heavy as they did in their heyday.

The economical 70-minute performance centered on tunes from the band's breakthrough 1992 album "Dirt," including "Down in a Hole" (sung by Corgan), "Rooster" (Lanegan), "Junkhead," "Angry Chair," "Would?" and the final song "Them Bones." Others included "Man in the Box" and "We Die Young" from 1990's "Facelift," and "Again" and show opener "Sludge Factory" from the band's final studio release, the self-titled 1995 "three-legged dog" album.

Cantrell Discusses New Singer and New Album

Blabbermouth is currently hosting excerpts from a Ultimate-Guitar interview of Jerry Cantrell, in which the guitarist says not to rule out the possibility of a new album. He also has some good things to say about his friend William Duvall, who has been confirmed to be the main vocalist for both the upcoming U.S. and European tours.

VH-1 Will Only Use Two Songs

According to a recent interview of Jerry Cantrell by Ultimate-Guitar.com, VH-1 is only planning on using two of the five songs AIC performed at their Decades Rock! Live appearance last month. "Angry Chair," "Them Bones," "Would?," "Man In The Box," and "Rooster" are all being considered.

For those of you hoping for professional audio/video from the show, we may be out of luck considering only a small selection of the entire concert will air on TV. Audience recordings are available, however, for those interested.

For the full interview checkout Ultimate-Guitar.com

    Updated Tour Schedule

Click here for all the known dates. Keep checking for updates on spring U.S. club and fall/winter U.S. festival and arena shows.

Looks like AIC will definetly be headed back to the states as early as August! Not only is that a good hint at more U.S. shows for late summer and fall, but given that there is more than a month gap between their last European show in Holland and their first announced U.S. show in South Dakota, that leaves a good amount of room for August festival appearances. Is Lollapalooza still a possibility? We think so. Just don't get your hopes up.

Still Waiting On Those U.S. Dates

So, over a week has passed since AIC revealed plans for a short U.S. club tour this May. According to sources, the band intends on playing atleast 5 gigs, all of which will take place at small, intimate venues in major U.S. cities. Unfortunately, we haven't heard much since then, other than that the tour kicks off May 18th and that information on each of their stops will be made available within the next week or so. If you haven't already, we suggest you subscribe to Dirt, the band's official newsletter and check your e-mail and the AIC official website often. You could also try and check this page, although we can assure you that by the time anything on a U.S. club tour is posted here, we would have already have gotten our tickets and so would the select few thousand AIC fans who will be checking their email every minute this week.

Good luck with finding tickets! We assure you if you're gonna see the AIC reunion, these will be the best shows to attend if you live in a major U.S. city.

We apologize if the file is removed by the time you get to this page. Please note that the show is readily available from other sources. A quick "Google" search should help you out. If a show link is removed, but a new one is found shortly after, we will update this page to reflect the new source.

This blog will hopefully direct you to as many show bootlegs from this year's reunion tour as we can. With that said, Tool fan site toolshed.down.net is currently hosting mp3 recordings of last year's AIC appearance at a tsunami benefit concert in Seattle. You can check them out in the "Audio" section. Only two songs are featured on their site, please download them with respect to any requests the site has for doing so. The full show should be readily available as well. We suggest you try a torrent search engine (ie. Isohunt)

    Enjoy!
